OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS ARE OUTDATED.
By continuing to deliver the present standardized system of education
we are putting millions of learners throughout the world at
disadvantage.
Most of the public education offerings have been with us for more
than 150 years, and during that time the basic delivery has remained
unchanged - with between 20 to 30 children of approximately the
same age seated in a classroom and taught by one person.
Even though adjusting and updating the curriculum may have been a
focus, delivery has stayed the same. Learners have still been taught in
a standardized and industrialized way - and as with anything that
comes from centralized control, it is highly inefficient, bureaucratic,
and wasteful.
Some parents may think that the overall educational system has
changed substantially, but teaching practice has not.
With the teacher at the front of the classroom and the children seated
in rows facing the teacher is the optimal way to learn for some
students.
Children learn best in different ways. Some children are best suited to
learn through visual stimulation. Others may learn best through hands-on education.
The reality is that the current educational system
doesn’t really accommodate any learning style, nor does it aim for
anything other than achieving higher-than-average test scores.
